Wendy and Diego are free!
In August 2017, Diego and his mother (pictured above) were released after nearly 700 days in a detention centre in Pennsylvania. Fearing for their lives, Wendy had fled to the USA with Diego after she was severely physically and sexually abused in her home country of Honduras. But instead of finding refuge, they were locked up and threatened with deportation, and Diego had to learn to walk and talk in ‘baby jail’.
Amnesty International issued an Urgent Action and thousands of supporters around the world demanded the United States Immigration service release Wendy and Diego. The pressure worked and they are now free to pursue their asylum claim in the USA.
